Sainsbury Centre Refurbishment - Principal Contractor Required

The University of East Anglia (UEA) is seeking a principal contractor to lead a major refurbishment of the Sainsbury Centre, a Grade II* listed building designed by Norman Foster and opened in 1978. The project scope includes replacement of the external envelope and extensive mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems upgrades. Key project objectives are to address building condition issues, improve energy efficiency, enhance visitor comfort and experience, and reduce long-term maintenance costs. The Sainsbury Centre is a world-class museum housing the globally significant Sainsbury Collection and serves as a major academic and cultural facility on UEA's campus, which supports over 17,000 students and 2,500 staff. The refurbishment must maintain the building's distinctive architectural character while modernizing its infrastructure and operational systems. Contractors should have experience with listed building conservation, large-scale MEP installations, and external envelope replacement on complex structures.
