Serology Managed Service Contract – Continuation

Public Health Wales is seeking to maintain continuity of its serology testing service through a direct award extension to the existing Serology Managed Service Contract with Abbott Laboratories Ltd and associated third-party suppliers. This contract provides critical laboratory infrastructure, equipment maintenance, and consumables essential for conducting serology testing across two operational sites. The service is vital for detecting and controlling infectious diseases including measles, mumps, rubella, HIV, and hepatitis, and directly impacts diagnostic turnaround times and public health surveillance capabilities. The current contract, which began on 23 November 2015 and was extended in 2022, is set to expire on 22 November 2025. This direct award will provide a 12-month extension (9 months plus a 3-month option) to ensure service continuity and mitigate significant risks to patient care and disease detection capabilities while a full procurement process is conducted. Suppliers should note that this is a continuation arrangement with the incumbent provider and associated infrastructure partners, designed to prevent disruption to essential public health laboratory services.
