    Brief

The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) is seeking qualified suppliers for the refurbishment of three critical Super Grid Transformers (SGT1A, SGT1B, and SGT1C) located at the J5 Substation. These transformers form part of the 400kV National Grid network and operate in parallel configuration to maintain grid stability and redundancy. As these assets approach 50 years of service, UKAEA is implementing a formal Asset Life Extension (ALE) Program to transition from reactive maintenance to proactive asset management. The refurbishment project, scheduled for execution during the 2026-2027 shutdown period, will address latent defects, obsolescence issues, and modernization requirements to extend the operational life of these critical assets by 10 to 15 years. A mandatory site visit is required before tender submission. Interested suppliers must submit a site visit request form to confirm attendance. The initial site visit is scheduled for Wednesday, 26 August at 9:00 AM, with additional dates available upon request. Estimated project values are preliminary and subject to refinement during the tender process.
