Food and Drink Market Data - Market Engagement Exercise

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) is conducting a market engagement exercise to identify suppliers of commercially available market data on food and drink products. This engagement will inform a future tender for data supply. DHSC seeks data on sales and nutrient content of food and drink products from three sectors: retail shops (supermarkets, online, specialist retailers), manufacturers, and out-of-home businesses (restaurants, cafes, fast food outlets, takeaways). Suppliers can respond on any or all sectors they serve; partial responses are welcome. Key requirements include: sales and volume data; comprehensive nutrition information (energy, fat, carbohydrates, sugars, fibre, protein, salt); product details (name, weight, price, serving size); and market coverage percentages. Data should be available for at least the last 3 years with clearly documented collection methodologies and data freshness (typically no older than 4-12 months). Suppliers should indicate: which market segments they cover; their data collection frequency; gaps in coverage; delivery timelines; and capability to provide additional analysis such as ingredient lists, nutrition claims, Nutrient Profile Model scores, or NOVA food classification. Standard routinely-collected data and any special collection requirements should both be described. This is a pre-procurement engagement.
