    Brief

The Ministry of Defence is conducting market research to procure an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) Emergency Recovery System (ERS) to safely recover disabled or damaged AUVs during non-standard or emergency operations. The system must recover AUVs up to 7 metres long and 3 tonnes in weight, work independently or with existing vessel cranes, and be compatible with various vessel types and deck configurations. Key requirements include reducing reliance on improvised recovery methods, minimizing personnel risk at the vessel edge, preventing person overboard incidents, and protecting both AUV and host vessel from damage. The system should be transportable, operable in challenging maritime conditions, simple to rig, and capable of supporting AUVs with propulsion, communications, navigation or power failures. Suppliers should provide certification, operating instructions, maintenance guidance, inspection requirements, and consider offering maintenance support services and operational training. Lead times from order to delivery are an important evaluation factor. Subject to funding and approvals, a contract notice may be issued for delivery within financial year 2026/2027.
