    Brief

This contract requires the development of an independent, evidence-based written report examining how a child's diagnosis of critical illness affects the mental health and wellbeing of families. The research supports the government's 10 Year Health Plan commitment to expanding mental health services and improving early intervention for at-risk groups. The report will provide a comprehensive evidence base to inform policy and service development decisions. It will investigate the mental health needs of parents, guardians, and siblings of critically ill children; evaluate the current availability and effectiveness of support services; and identify gaps or barriers in existing provision. Key deliverables include: identifying evidence on mental health impacts; determining what emotional and psychological support families require; assessing whether needs differ from other populations; examining cost, accessibility and effectiveness of current interventions; and providing actionable recommendations for further research, practical next steps, and improvements to support services. Contract value: £180,450 (VAT exclusive) or £216,540 (VAT inclusive), with an optional one-month extension.
