Churchtown Landfill Site Ground Investigation Work

Churchtown Landfill Site is a 9.7-hectare facility located in Churchtown, near Lifford, County Donegal, Ireland. This ground investigation project aims to assess hydrogeological conditions at the site. The scope of work includes: drilling one rotary groundwater borehole to 15 meters depth; installing four rotary leachate monitoring wells in waste to 5-10 meters depth; drilling two shallow groundwater wells along the southern boundary near the River Finn using window sampling techniques to 5-10 meters depth; installing groundwater and leachate monitoring standpipes in all boreholes; decommissioning one existing borehole (GW1); developing monitoring standpipes by purging a minimum of five times the well volume to remove fines; conducting permeability and hydraulic conductivity testing in all completed wells to assess functionality; and establishing ground levels and locations of all exploratory holes. This investigation will provide critical data for landfill management and environmental monitoring.
