Brief

United Utilities is seeking contractors and suppliers to deliver rainwater management solutions across the North West of England (Cumbria, Lancashire, Cheshire, Greater Manchester, and Merseyside). This framework supports compliance with the Environment Act and Storm Overflow Discharge Reduction Plan, aiming to reduce combined sewer overflows to no more than ten times per year by 2050. The program involves approximately 6,500 to 10,000 interventions using sustainable drainage principles including permeable paving, rain gardens, green roofs, swales, disconnections, and natural flood management. Opportunities are available across multiple work categories: Disconnections (design and build of surface water system diversions), Minor Works Streets (highway-based rainwater interventions with street works qualifications), Minor Works Five S's (interventions on schools, supermarkets, stations, state buildings, and social housing), Major Works (multi-intervention construction packages), Natural Flood Management (specialist environmental design and build), Products & Manufacturing (supply and installation of rainwater management products), and Surveys & Investigations (topographical, drainage, and infiltration assessments). Contractors should demonstrate technical capability in civil engineering, green infrastructure, and landscape expertise, with ability to deliver nature-based solutions at scale while creating wider environmental, social, and economic benefits through blue-green infrastructure.
