Professional Actors for Family Liaison Officer Training

The Ministry of Justice is seeking an external supplier to provide professional actors for Family Liaison Officer (FLO) training programmes within His Majesty's Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS). The role involves providing two experienced actors for two days (days 3-4) per training course to roleplay as prisoners' next of kin during realistic scenario assessments. Actors will receive scenario briefs outlining the character they are to portray, including emotional context and background details, but will not follow a script, instead responding naturally and adaptively to interactions with FLOs. Following each 30-minute scenario (20 minutes roleplay, 10 minutes feedback), actors will provide constructive feedback from the perspective of the next of kin. Training courses are typically held at the Prison Service College, Newbold Revel, with approximately one course per month planned (potentially up to four additional courses commissioned ad hoc annually). Each day includes five scenario assessments split between the two actors. Actors must have proven experience in roleplay, simulation, or scenario-based acting involving emotionally sensitive material. Suppliers should note that the minimum notice period is one month, though the Authority typically plans nine months in advance.
