Metal Gateway Artwork for Broadway Didcot Town Centre Development

South Oxfordshire District Council is seeking an artist to design and fabricate a bespoke metal gateway for 116-120 Broadway, Didcot. The gateway will serve as a functional and sculptural transition point between the public Broadway frontage and a semi-private communal courtyard serving new homes and commercial spaces (Class E) within a mixed-use affordable housing development. The artwork will be integrated into the architectural metalwork package and should complement the site's emphasis on sustainability, accessibility, and high-quality design. This commission supports the Didcot Garden Town 'Cultural Spine' initiative, which embeds public art as an intrinsic element of placemaking to enhance the public realm, shape local identity, and improve the experience for residents and visitors. The gateway presents an opportunity for an artist to create a distinctive, durable metal artwork that contributes to the regeneration of this prominent town centre site, combining functional requirements with creative sculptural expression.
