    Brief

    This is an Expression of Interest for a comprehensive safety study on plug-in batteries (up to 800W AC output) for UK domestic use. Phase 1 involves: - Evaluating commercial plug-in battery products globally (Anker, EcoFlow, etc.) for specifications and compatibility - Assessing safety risks including fire incidents, electrical hazards, and battery standard compliance - Reviewing relevant safety standards (BS EN, IEC, UL standards) - Identifying gaps in current standards for DIY-installed plug-in batteries - Laboratory testing of 3-8 plug-in battery products under various configurations - Testing for misuse scenarios, overcharge conditions, and fire safety performance - Recommending technical and regulatory adaptations for safe UK use Phase 2 (subject to budget): - Evaluating findings from Phase 1 - Laboratory testing of 5-8 fire safety scenarios in UK domestic settings - Recommendations for technical standards, product specifications, and guidance for manufacturers and consumers Required test facilities must have: structural integrity to withstand overpressure and fire, advanced fire suppression systems, gas capture ventilation, capability to test 1-5 kWh batteries, appropriate instrumentation for temperature/gas/electrical monitoring, safe waste disposal, UKAS accreditation where applicable, and ability to construct bespoke test rigs.
