Lyophilisation Services for Irradiated Pathogens

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is seeking to understand market capability for lyophilisation (freeze-drying) services as part of their Pandemic Preparedness strategy. This Request for Information (RFI) invites suppliers to demonstrate their expertise in developing and optimizing lyophilisation processes for irradiated, inactivated viral and bacterial materials. Key Dates: - RFI Published: 30 June 2026 - Response Deadline: 14 July 2026 Scope: UKHSA requires suppliers to lyophilise up to 20 different pathogens over 4 years, with approximately 5 batches per year. Vial volumes will range from 0.3mL to 2mL, with batch sizes between 6-100mL. The goal is to enhance long-term stability and usability of inactivated pathogens for diagnostic use and pandemic preparedness. Required Supplier Capabilities: - Safe handling of irradiated, inactive viral and bacterial materials in liquid medium - Development and optimization of lyophilisation protocols with stabilization matrix assessment - ISO 9001 quality management system or equivalent - Product quality control testing including thermal stability analysis and contaminant screening Questions can be submitted via the Atamis portal messaging centre. Responding to this RFI does not obligate UKHSA to enter into contracts, nor does non-response affect future tender eligibility.
