Brief
The City Drainage Peine (SEP) operates as a municipal enterprise for wastewater disposal and treatment in the city of Peine and surrounding areas. The wastewater treatment plant in the Vöhrum district is responsible for treating Peine's wastewater with a capacity of 90,000 population equivalents. The plant operates on a single-shift system with combined on-call duty and a high degree of automation. The historically developed and continuously expanded and modernized facility is to be optimized and expanded in the coming years regarding its self-energy supply, aiming for maximum energy independence. A key component will be the replacement of the existing digestion plant and gas storage due to age and technical reasons. In addition to achieving the set goals from the revised municipal wastewater directive, the establishment of a stable and future-proof process technology is the focus of the measure. Special attention should be paid by the planner to the energy-efficient and personnel-optimized operation of the facility. The construction of the new facilities is planned on the expansion site of the Peine wastewater treatment plant, allowing construction to take place during ongoing operations without extensive temporary solutions or time-consuming (partial) deconstructions. The goal is also to disentangle the existing plant structure and optimize flow paths on the plant site. In the course of the digester reconstruction, the age-related replacement of the excess sludge thickening will also take place, so that in the future all sludge treatment-related plant structures are compactly arranged on the plant site. The expansion site of the wastewater treatment plant is currently undergoing a land use and development plan procedure, so the site is expected to be designated as a special use area for supply and disposal facilities by the end of 2025, thus providing the legal framework for the plant expansion.
