Construction of Rail Connections for the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel

DB InfraGO AG is planning a robust rail connection between Lübeck and Fehmarn to link with the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel being constructed by Denmark. The project, titled 'Rail Connection for the Fixed Fehmarnbelt Crossing (FBQ)', involves the planning and implementation of a rail link between Lübeck and Fehmarn, along with the necessary connection to the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel. The expansion to two electrified tracks will create direct and fast train connections between Hamburg, Lübeck, and Copenhagen for commuters, tourists, and freight transport. Upon completion of the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel, the Belt region will become more interconnected, and the European rail network will gain the necessary capacity to sustainably manage the increasing traffic flows across Europe. Germany has committed, through a state treaty, to double-track and electrify the railway line between Lübeck and Puttgarden. The future route of this line has been discussed in detail through an extensive spatial planning process in Schleswig-Holstein, involving local communities and authorities. DB InfraGO AG is the project sponsor for the ten planning approval sections into which the route is divided. The planned expansion and new construction measures for the rail connection to the Fixed Fehmarnbelt Crossing (FBQ) are titled 'ABS/NBS Hamburg - Lübeck - Puttgarden (Hinterland Connection FBQ)'. All planning approval sections (PFA) are located in Schleswig-Holstein and fall under the jurisdiction of the Northern Regional Division of DB InfraGO AG. The overall contract (VP 1-7) includes the planning, realization, and commissioning of the Sund crossing (planning approval section FSQ) under the partnership model for rail. This procurement process and the subsequent FSQ alliance include the planning approval section FSQ. This procurement encompasses the scope of VP 2. The procurement package (VP) 7 includes the following main services: construction of tunnels using open construction methods, construction of combined road and rail troughs, construction of portal structures (including sonic boom openings), establishment of operational buildings at the south portal as the main control center, establishment of operational buildings at the north portal as a sub-control center, new construction of road overpasses at Großenbrode over the B207, new construction of road overpasses at Großenbrode over the railway line, and new construction of road overpasses at Strukkamp/Avendorf over the B207 and railway line.
