Construction Works for Power Plants – Moabit Coal Phase-Out (MoKA) Lot 2: Structural Renovation of the Listed Boiler House 2 for the Installation of Three New Hot Water Generation Systems

This project involves the construction of gas-fired district heating generation plants at the Reuter West and Moabit sites to replace coal-fired facilities, facilitating Berlin's coal phase-out by the end of 2029. At Reuter West, a 4-boiler system with a total production capacity of 160 MWth will be built, and at Moabit, a 3-boiler system with a total production capacity of 120 MWth will be established. This opportunity focuses on Lot 2, which includes structural renovation work on the listed Boiler House 2 to accommodate three new hot water generation systems and associated auxiliary buildings at the Moabit site. The contractor must perform preparatory work in the existing Boiler House, ensuring that operations of existing facilities continue until the new systems are operational. The completion of construction work is planned for Q3/2026, with the commissioning of the new system (Lot 1, not included in this announcement) scheduled for Q1/2027. Special requirements must be met due to the need to maintain existing operations and the constraints of the urban environment and heritage protection. Key tasks include vibration-sensitive demolition of approximately 400 m³ of concrete slabs and foundations, around 350 m³ of earthworks, specialized deep foundation work (micropiles), approximately 750 m³ of reinforced concrete work for foundations and slabs, and scaffold construction, as well as about 50 tons of steel construction work for a pipe bridge. All work must be carried out in a confined existing environment.
