Regional Groundwater Management Project in Central Asia

The Regional Groundwater Management project focuses on addressing significant challenges related to water scarcity, overuse, and pollution of groundwater in Central Asia. Groundwater is vital for agriculture, domestic needs, and industrial activities, particularly in areas facing water shortages. Switzerland aims to enhance collaboration among Central Asian countries regarding groundwater management, building on its experience from the GGRETA project. The initiative will work to fill data gaps, promote integrated water management, and develop strong policies and institutional frameworks. The project will raise awareness, improve skills, and introduce advanced technologies to protect groundwater resources and ensure their sustainable use. Additionally, it aims to improve access to clean water, strengthen ecosystems, and enhance resilience to climate change. Switzerland's participation highlights its commitment to sustainable development, peacebuilding, and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Central Asia.
