Germany – Architectural, Construction, and Engineering Services for the European School in Saarbrücken

The Paul-Schmook-School consists of two connected buildings, I and II, with a foyer linking them. Currently, this site houses the European School Saarland, which started in 2021, and part of the Technical Vocational Training Center TGBBZ 2 Saarbrücken Mügelsberg. The TGBBZ 2 area is expected to relocate to Mügelsberg by 2028 after the completion of expansion areas. The Paul-Schmook-School is to be renovated and expanded to provide sufficient interim space for the European School until the TGBBZ 2 area vacates, allowing the entire school complex to be available for the European School Saarland by mid-2028. After the European School's departure, the site should accommodate the necessary space for a three-stream high school. The timing of the European School's move depends on a decision regarding its final location. The planning must integrate both the interim use of the European School and its future use as a high school, ideally without significant renovations. Additionally, there are deficiencies in the schoolyard and sports facilities due to the previously planned vocational school format. The planning should address these deficiencies, aiming to enhance the available space and improve the quality of the outdoor areas while considering climate adaptation measures. A minimum of a one-court sports hall is required, with an ideal provision for a two-court sports hall. Any potential negative impacts on existing space should be minimized. If a one-court sports hall is built, it should be designed for future expansion to include an additional sports court.
