Guildhall Great Hall Roof Repair and Maintenance Works

The City of London Corporation seeks a contractor for high-level repair and maintenance works to the Great Hall roof at Guildhall, London's historic civic centre. The scope of works includes refurbishment of the central lantern and fleche, isolated repairs to the Collyweston stone slate roof, repairs and improvements to rainwater discharge systems, high-level masonry repairs and cleaning to clerestories, parapets, turrets, pinnacles and tracery, re-bedding of gable copings with improved details, and installation of a new weathervane on the fleche. The Great Hall and wider Guildhall complex will remain operational throughout the works. The contractor's compound will be located on the paved area north of the Old Library. Due to ambulatory enclosure on all sides preventing full-height ground-supported scaffolding, scaffolding to the north and south elevations will be cradled from parapet level, while east and west gable access will require bridging over ambulatories and bearing onto adjacent structures. Indicative scaffolding design and methodology will be provided in tender documentation. Site possession is anticipated for early October 2026, with works to the lantern and south elevation to be completed by late October 2027, prior to the annual Lord Mayor's Show. This is a two-stage competitive procurement process under the Procurement Act 2023, with a maximum of six suppliers shortlisted for the Invitation to Tender stage.
